Apple Sausage Jumble

Submitted by Michelle Maggs

From the “Applehood and Mother Pie” cookbook compiled by the Junior League of Rochester, NY. This is a sweet and savory side dish that I like to serve on a cool fall day. It’s also a great take-along for a pot luck or tailgate party. Sometimes I substitute these 2 ingredients with the chunky applesauce that is sold pre-mixed with brown sugar and cinnamon. As a matter of fact, the amounts of all of the ingredients can be adjusted according to taste.

Ingredients

2 lbs. of Kielbasa sausage
35 oz. of Chunky applesauce
3/4 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup of chopped onion

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees

  2. Slice sausage

  3. Combine all ingredients in baking dish

  4. Bake for 1.5-2 hours uncovered, stirring occasionally

Tip: If taking beyond your home, I’d recommend you bake and serve it in an attractive piece of crockery or something similar that will retain the heat.
