Sugar and Spice Pecans

This recipe is from the book “Southern Living 1982 Annual Recipes.” The book was given to us as a shower gift when we got married. I made these treats the first Christmas we were married, and they have been an annual holiday gift tradition for, and from, our family ever since.

 

Ingredients

3/4 cup of sugar
1 egg white
2 1/2 tbsp. of water
1 tsp. of ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. of salt
1/4 tsp. of ground allspice
1/4 tsp. of ground cloves
1/4 tsp. of ground nutmeg
8 cups of pecan halves

Directions

  1. Preheat oven 275 degrees

  2. Combine first 8 ingredients in a large bowl and mix well

  3. Add pecans, stir until evenly coated

  4. Spread pecans in a greased jellyroll pan

  5. Bake for 50-55 minutes

  6. Remove to wax paper while still warm, then allow to cool

  7. Store in airtight container
